Entering the venue via a path illuminated by glowing oil lamps, guests were teased with the magical evening in store soon after arriving at Wick Farm near Bath. Set in acres of stunning countryside, the medieval farm proved to be the perfect venue for the first annual Bristol and Somerset Wedding Awards, providing an atmospheric location and warm hospitality.

Once safely inside the stunning farmhouse, guests were given the chance to mingle with the very best of the local wedding industry. Glasses of Prosecco were provided to warm everyone up, while the talented Darren Campbell entertained with a close-up magic routine to rival Dynamo.

With a swift word from the fantastic toastmaster, Dave Stallworthy, guests took to their seats – stopping at first to admire the gorgeous décor in the Upper Barn. After a quick game of “Heads and Tails”, dinner was served. And what a dinner it was! Supplied by Strawberry Field Catering, the three course meal comprised a starter of slow roasted pepper and tomato bruschetta with tarragon pesto, a delicious main of Chewton pork loin with juniper jus, roast potatoes and garlic and herb roasted root vegetables, and a dessert to die for; warm cherry bakewell with Marshfield ice cream. Divine! There was also a tot of Sheppy’s Cider  for guests to enjoy, which went down extremely well!

Finally, the evening edged ever closer to the awards ceremony, opening with an inspirational speech by Lee Bishop of Strawberry Field. There was barely a dry eye in the room as he introduced Naomi and the charity, asking those present to dig deep and help wherever they could.

The Wedding Wishing Well Appreciation Awards

Taking place directly after the Bristol and Somerset Wedding Awards, the Wedding Wishing Well Appreciation Awards aim to celebrate the contributions made by volunteers and fundraisers during the last year – after all, without their hard work and dedication, a lot of what we do would be impossible.

Once again Naomi took to the stage to present the awards.

Supplier of the year: The team at Essential Events Hire has worked incredibly hard in the last couple of years, supporting our weddings and fundraising efforts wherever they can. We cannot thank them enough.

Corporate Supporter of the year: We would like to thank Johnsons the Cleaners for supporting our Wedding Dress Amnesty, and for their tireless work towards helping the Foundation reach its goals.

Volunteer of the year: None other than Jo Robbins, an utterly wonderful and dedicated human being.

Fundraiser of the year: Who else, but Zoe Bromiley and Mike Parry. Their dedication to the Foundation has been absolutely overwhelming and we cannot thank them enough for their fundraising efforts.

Of course, a massive thank you needs to be given to every single volunteer, supplier, fundraiser and supporter. The Wedding Wishing Well Foundation exists because of those around it, and we are eternally grateful for your continued efforts.

As the last prize was awarded the rest of the evening’s entertainment got well underway, treating guests to yet more excitement. An auction, with prizes including a three night stay in an Exmoor cottage, a boudoir photo shoot, and a ski or snowboard lesson, raised yet more money for the Wedding Wishing Well Foundation, while raffle winners took it in turns to choose some truly superb gifts that had been donated for the event.

The first annual Bristol and Somerset Wedding Awards was then rounded off by a fabulous disco supplied by Rocka’s Roadhouse, with the opportunity for some fun photographs provided by Photodabek. It was a truly exceptional event, and every praise should be given to the fabulous Wick Farm, Strawberry Field Catering, Wedding Monkey, and Lyndsay Jones of Forever With Love, as well as each and every guest in attendance and those who helped to organise the evening and dress the venue. You made the evening a complete success, and we cannot thank you enough.

We hope to be able to update you all with the total raised on the night soon. It’s safe to say that the evening was a roaring success, though, and a date is already planned for next year’s event. Keep your eyes peeled and your diary to hand!
